Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Learning outcomes

The course covers:

  • ‘DRSABCD’ and the First Aider’s legal responsibilities
  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • manage and assess an emergency situation
  • use an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
  • Perform CPR procedures
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Review the incident

Course outcomes

When you have successfully completed the assessment tasks for the unit HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation you will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

Duration and frequency

Face-to-face classroom training using Moodle as a learning resource and to complete knowledge questions followed by practical demonstration/observation. The course is conducted over 1 day with assessment taking place on the second day.
